Tubing Hill

by admin on December 22, 2009

Beaver Creek Mountain just added a tubing hill to supplement their available activities. Clearly it is directed at younger children. But the price is $20 for an hour. That’s close to the price of a Beaver Creek ski rental. I guess nothing in Beaver Creek is cheap, although Beaver Creek ski rentals are very reasonable these days. I did a lot of sledding when I was younger, but I have a feeling the new tubing hill will be a much more controlled environment. But if people are willing to pay to ice skate in circles, I’m sure they’ll pay to tube.

Bela Fleck

by admin on December 19, 2009

I just noticed Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are playing the Villar Center in Beaver Creek tonight. I saw Bela in the 9th grade for my first concert ever. To this day, it is one of the better shows I’ve seen. But with ticket prices surpassing those of a ski rental, I may have to pass. In Beaver Creek, I think skiing takes priority over a concert, but that’s just me.

Tough Day at Beaver Creek

by admin on December 17, 2009

Sunday marked the toughest conditions yet I’ve ski’d in. I’ve literally ski’d less than 10 days in my life, but Sunday was foggy, windy and snowy at Beaver Creek. With my Beaver Creek ski rentals dialed up, I attempted to work on my technique and speed. But with no depth perception and limited forward vision, it was difficult. I ended up skiing defensively and, as I noticed with many guests, was just happy to finish the day unharmed. I finished my day with a beer and some holiday shopping at a Beaver Creek ski shop.

Technique Week

by admin on December 15, 2009

It’s Technique Week at the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek. Watch for hordes of guests strapped into their Beaver Creek ski rentals winding down groomed terrain. You’ll also see them enjoying afternoon cocktails and perusing the Beaver Creek ski shops. Guests learn to ski, and the village economy gets a boost, everyone wins!

Driving into Beaver Creek

by admin on December 11, 2009

One of the many things I love about Beaver Creek is how far set back from Highway 6 it is. After entering the gates, you have to follow Village Rd for 3-5 minutes to access the Village and the Mountain. It provides a breathtaking view of the mountain and feels very exclusive. Littered with ski shops and high end hotels, Beaver Creek just has an awesome feel to it that many other mountains don’t offer.

Cell Phone Service

by admin on December 9, 2009

One of my few complaints about Beaver Creek is my cell phone service. Granted I have an older phone, but my service is awful. Legitimately half of my calls get dropped. To exacerbate the problem, there are no cell phone stores. There is a ski rental shop on every corner, but not one cell phone store. O well, at least the skiing is good.

First Snow Storm

by admin on December 8, 2009

We are currently in the midst of my first substantial Beaver Creek snow storm. It started coming down overnight and may not stop until late Tuesday or Wednesday. The traffic is bad but the skiing is good. Hopefully the mountains will open lots of new terrain. And I’m sure noone is happier than the Beaver Creek ski shops, as the villages have not been too busy just yet.

Black Diamond Ball

by admin on December 5, 2009

The Black Diamond Ball was yesterday at the Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch. It was a great benefit for the Vail Valley Foundation. Many of the local Beaver Creek ski shops and ski rental companies were represented. What a great cause and great community we have in Beaver Creek.
