I have recently got into going to the snowboard parks in Beaver Creek. If you are not experienced with going off of big jumps and doing rails, then Beaver Creek is a great place to learn. If you need to rent equipment, then stop by one of Beaver Creek ski rental shops. They have great skis and snowboards and the employees are very knowledgeable. If you are not very good in the parks then I suggest starting with the easy one then move on to the more advanced. Go up the Centennial Express, and then go the the Birds of Prey Express to the left at the top of the Centennial Lift. Get on Birds of Prey Express and go to the right at the top. This is a great learning park, you can go to the easy or medium park. They both have rails and boxes, but the medium park has three jumps. Once you have mastered the these parks, go to the advanced park on Centennial. The jumps are bigger and the rails are more difficult. Good luck, be safe and wear a helmet. If you need a helmet you can rent one at the ski rental shop that you got your equipment from.

I have been skiing/snowboarding for over 12 years and have never worn a helmet. I have had some close calls in the woods and have thought about getting a helmet. It was not until my roommate told me about a kid he worked with, who caught an edge in the trees. The kid did not have a helmet on and smashed into a tree, the doctors told him that he could not blow his nose for 3 weeks because he was leaking brain fluid. That story was enough for me. I went out and bought a helmet.

If you are looking to get away from everybody and want to find powder, check out Royal Elk Glade. Take Grouse Mountain Express Lift and exit to the right. Take a deep breath and proceed down the catwalk, a very small cat walk. The farther you go down, the more untouched things are but at anytime you can drop into the trees. The trees are not extremely tight and there is room for error. So if the snow is in the forecast, make a bee line to the Royal Elk Glade.

If you don’t have skis for this Thursday, make a reservation at your local Ski Rental Delivery shop. Why?? Every Thursday at Beaver Creek, patrons are invited too take part in a glow-stick parade-on-skis. The parade follows a route that actually leads you down the mountain. COOL!!! After the ski- down the fireworks show is a must see. Registration for Thursday Night Lights is held at the Beaver Creek Ski School. Only requirement is that all skiers must be of at least an intermediate ski level. Hope to see you out there.

It snowed 12″ in the last 2 days, and 7 of those inches have been in the last 24 hours! It’s the the perfect time to head out on the mountain and shred some pow! The Christmas rush has long since died down so lift lines are short and tracks are few. Make sure to use a Beaver Creek Ski Shop and try out a pair of Phantom 80’s so you can glide through the deep powder.

Beaver Creek, though not as big as Vail, is an awesome place to ski and snowboard. You can experience of many groomed runs as well as deep powder conditions that are all within close proximity to one another. Runs like; Centennial just under the Centennial chair lift, Larkspur under the Larkspur lift, Cinch on top of Cinch lift and runs in Strawberry Park. Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead offers fast skiing but is also great for intermediate skiers. You can hit up some powder at Larkspur Bowl, just go to the right at the top of Larkspur lift. Follow the cat walk and head into the open trees to the right, but be sure to look for untracked snow before jumping in. You should also catch some powder runs in Rose Bowl, and Royal Elk Glade. If you don’t have skis or a snowboard, you should definitely check out the best Beaver Creek Ski Shop that Vail, Beaver Creek and Arrowhead has to offer.

If you have the avalanche training, equipment, and the conditions allow there is easy access to some great back country skiing above Beaver Creek. One of the most popular spots is known to the locals as “Bald Spot.” Off of the Cinch lift there is an access road to the right, follow the skin trail / boot pack for 20 minutes and you’ll be looking down on Avon and Beaver Creek. The runs inside the bowl are unlimited from tree skiing to a wind swept snow field. The views are spectacular and the you can always find some fresh powder if you know where to look. When you reach the bottom of the bowl just follow the drainage and you will run out onto the trail “Golden Eagle”. Please be cautious after a good snow day certain aspects of “Bald Spot” do slide (avalanche). This year there was an avalanche 1,000 feet wide and 4 feet deep, so keep your avie wits and ski with caution! Check the conditions before you go.
